Clash of the Titans (1981)

Perseus is the son of Danae of Argos and Zeus. After being tosses them out to sea by King Acrisius, angering Zeus. Zeus orders Poseidon to release the Kraken, the last of the Titans, to destroy Argos and sends Danae and Perseus to Seriphos where Perseus grows up with a charmed life. Meanwhile, Calibos son of the goddess Thetis, is to be married to Andromeda, daughter of Cassiopeia of Joppa. However, Calibos, who is spoiled and malicious, kills several of Zeus’s prized flying horses except for Pegasus. As punishment, Zeus turns Calibos into a grotesque monster. In turn, Calibos curses Andromeda to prevent her from marrying any other suitor unless they solve an impossible riddle. In a fit of jealousy, Thetis transports Perseus to Joppa where he solves the riddle but before their wedding, Andromeda's mother, Queen Cassiopeia, inadvertently insults Thetis. As punishment, Thetis orders Andromeda chained to a rock wall as a sacrifice for the Kraken who will arrive in three days. Perseus must embark on a journey where he'll face many obstacles to find a way to stop the Kraken, save Andromeda, save Joppa, and claim his birthright. A fun adventure highlighted by wonderful practical stop motion effects by the legendary FX's wizard Ray Harryhausen.
