We wrap up the coloring book mini-series with a recap of the process and some takeaways when it comes to marketing your book year-round. More at www.bemovingforward.com.

Part 1: Recap of the coloring book mini-series

Happy Halloween! With colorful costumes and candy all around, I can’t but help think today is the perfect day to wrap up the coloring book mini-series.

Let’s review the steps to creating a coloring book with a roadmap of episodes from this month. If you’re new to the podcast and are interested in creating your own coloring book, then this is a good place to start.

Step 1: Find a niche and a theme

Step 2: Design and illustrations (outsourcing)

Step 3: Proofs and self-publishing your coloring book on KDP

Step 4: Marketing your coloring book

Part 2: Key takeaways and reminders

As you create your coloring book and put it out there, here are some key takeaways you should keep in mind.

  1. Marketing should begin before you launch: don’t wait until launch to start marketing your coloring book (a mistake I made).

  2. Marketing is ongoing: don’t limit your marketing to the day, week or month of launch. Continue reminding people that you have a coloring book on your social media channels.

  3. Tie your book to an event or holiday: Whether it’s Halloween this month or the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas season or the Fourth of July, tethering your book to a holiday will help you hone your marketing to promote your book.

  4. It’s evergreen: The beauty of a digital product like a print-on-demand book is that once it’s out there, it’s there for as long as you want it. You can and should continue to promote it to your target market based on the niche, theme and any holidays you’ve tethered it to.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this mini-series and that it’s inspired you to get your creative on with color and fun!

Part 3: What I’m reading

The Gunslinger (Dark Tower #1) by Stephen King (** ½). Not my favorite King novel as this one dips more into fantasy than horror. I found it a little too trippy and abstract. That aside, King continues to prove he has a gift with world-building and developing rich, memorable characters. I do plan to read the sequels as many consider it to be King’s magnum opus.
