How Natalie gets inspired to conquer the day:
This is something Natalie studies from her podcast guests, asking them what their morning and evening routines are; “permanently borrowing” the best ones. Natalie has two aspects to her morning. One is her Christian faith which she connects with by tuning in to Tim Keller’s podcast. For Natalie, Tim Keller’s sermons provide great perspective, especially as they relate to minimizing the trivial day-to-day problems of life. A second way Natalie jump starts her morning is by listening to fun music at “full blast,” while dancing around her apartment as she gets ready to leave for work. This morning ritual was inspired by Natalie’s dad, who loves to dance.
Setback or failure that led to pivot and shift:
As an attorney, Natalie faces failures and setbacks “all the time.” As she describes, the legal profession is very “high pressure” and “cutthroat.” Too often, Natalie sees attorneys placing their identity with what they do or their titles. Natalie avoids this trap and stays grounded by not “anchoring” her identity in her work. Instead, Natalie focuses on her life outside of work: her friends, family and relationships. Natalie has yet to pivot in her career, having been in practice for 5 years. However, launching the PersoNatalie podcast, can be seen as a great shift: channeling Natalie’s passion for connecting with people into a medium that continually inspires her and her listeners to move forward.
Knowledge Bursts:
Resource or cultural experience that inspired Natalie to move forward:
How Natalie stays organized and manages her time:
Natalie walks everyday to work (40 minutes each way) without looking at her work Blackberry or personal iPhone. This allows Natalie to clear her head and have dedicated “me time,” during which she will listen to a Tim Keller podcast or read an inspirational book. Natalie also listens to music and dances her way to work.
Natalie keeps a journal of goals, inspirational thoughts and lessons learned. Natalie will also print out and add articles that have had an impact on her. Natalie often goes back and reads this journal; reflecting on its contents, lessons learned and ways she can improve and grow.
Favorite app / website / resource or productivity hack:
Natalie admittedly is not a big tech person. So her favorite resource is an old school calendar. Natalie describes herself as “insanely organized” when it comes to her calendar; using a monthly planner to organize her busy schedule. Notably, Natalie gets a new calendar every November and spends time mapping out everyone’s birthday; proudly proclaiming that she never uses Facebook to remember birthdays and certain key dates.

Natalie’s Advice for you to Move Forward:
The number one thing is to take action. Natalie makes it a point to tease out and discover what people’s goals and passions are. Natalie recommends that no matter what your aspirations are, big or small, to break them down into manageable steps. As an example, Natalie describes how she did this with her podcast, breaking down this seemingly daunting task, into small, digestible steps (getting business cards, watching YouTube tutorials, etc.). As Natalie reminds, at the end of the day, “no one is going to do this for you” so take it upon yourself to take action and move forward.
